City residents and youth, college students, community leaders, and local government came together to form the New Brunswick Community Food Alliance in 2010.
Community gatherings called Food Forums were held to discuss the needs of the community, raise awareness on issues related to food and community health, ask community members to provide feedback on issues related to food, and invite residents and leaders to work together to build a better food system in New Brunswick.
After more than a year of community engagement, an Organizational Structure for the NBCFA was established on October 7th, 2011. Shortly after on November 16th, 2011, the New Brunswick City Council adopted a City Resolution recognizing the NBCFA as New Brunswick’s food policy council. Official Bylaws were established on February 18th, 2012. The Food Alliance is now in its third operating year as an organization.
